Volkswagen T25 / T3 Danbury Family Estate Camper Model History
Circa 1980 Danbury introduced the T25 / T3 Volkswagen Danbury Family Estate. It had either a standard tin top or a side elevating pop top roof initially. On later models it was also possible to specify a high top fixed roof option. It was advertised as having seven forward facing seats. The layout consisted of two swivelling buddy seats behind the driver and passenger seat. The seats folded to allow either two single beds or a double. In circa 1983 the specification changed and the two middle buddy seats were replaced with a single double seat. A cupboard next to the rear seat contained a 2 burner stove and grill. The engine options for the earlier versions used either the 1600 cc or the 2000 cc CU air cooled engines. Circa 1982 the Danbury Family Estate was available with the new water cooled diesel engine option and circa 1983 the petrol air cooled engine options were replaced with petrol water cooled engine options. Note that during the production period of this model various changes were made to the specification including changes to upholstery materials, electrical control panels, furniture design etc. Where possible I will try and show examples of any updates and the approximate date of any change in the descriptions below. It was also possible by 1981 to order single tone options at a lower price than the dual colour option. Note: Circa 1983 the two swivelling middle seats were changed to a double seat with reversible back rest as can be seen in photos lower down the page.
1) Drivers seat. 2) Passenger seat. 3) Forward facing seats. Seats can be repositioned to create either two single beds or one large double bed.

4) Two forward facing middle seats can be swivelled to create a lounge or a dinette using the removable table that fastened to the side wall.

Other features include: Three two gallon water containers (six gallons of water storage in total). Washing up bowl. Flame resistant cabinet at rear for Camping Gas cylinder.

Danbury fibreglass elevating roof runs full length of the vehicle. Gas filled struts assist with raising roof, hold the roof in place and take weight when lowering. Fully upholstered bed in roof (1829 mm x ?? mm).
