Volkswagen T25 / T3 Danbury Diamond Camper Model History
Circa 1982 Danbury introduced the T25 / T3 Volkswagen Danbury Diamond. It was a top of the range model that included as standard two tone exterior paint and the 2000 cc air-cooled engine. It had a fully automatic side elevating pop top roof called the “Autoroof” (although a special edition model made for dealer Davis & Stone had a manual roof). The layout consisted of a rear rock n roll seat that folded to create a double bed. The Diamond had cupboards along the offside wall. Incorporated into the side cupboards were an Italian 2 burner stove with integral sink and drainer and a fridge. Unusually there was an eye level grill at the rear of the side unit. Note that during the production period of this model various changes were made to the specification including changes to upholstery materials, electrical control panels, furniture design etc. Where possible I will try and show examples of any updates and the approximate date of any change in the descriptions below. 4) Volkswagen T25 / T3 Danbury Diamond Camper Furniture Specification The Volkswagen T25 / T3 Danbury Diamond layout consisted of:
Long worktop and kitchen unit along the offside. Side units have an off-white Formica front and the doors are panelled with Formica with a small floral pattern.
Rear rock n roll seat bed.
1) Drivers seat with swivel. 2) Passenger seat with swivel. 3) Small removable coffee table between driver and passenger seats. 4) Rear rock n roll seat. Settee slides forward and back rest reclines to meet up with a deep foam cushion on the engine deck to form double bed. 5) Lounge area made by rotating driver and passenger seats. 6) Dinette area made by locating removable table and centre leg in rear. 7) Cupboard directly behind drivers seat contains an Italian two burner stove integral with sink and drainer finished in brown enamel 8) An Electrolux RM 122 Fridge (was available at extra cost £160 on Davis & Stone special model) and was located under the stove. 9) Large top loading locker at rear of side unit. 10) Unusually an Optimus eye level grill is located to the rear of the side unit.
11) Large jacket length wardrobe at rear. 12) Locker under the rock n roll seat / bed. 13) Gas cylinder locker (ventilated) at rear of wardrobe accessible from tailgate.
Other features include: The windows were fully curtained. Floor covered with “cork tile” vinyl. Removable rear piled carpet. Rear seat locker is carpeted. Three two gallon water containers (six gallons of water storage in total) stored in rear wardrobe. 240 volt hook up / plug socket. Zig CF6 Electrical control panel with fuses, battery condition indicator and vehicle battery recharging facility located below the Optimus eye level grill.

The Danbury Diamond had an electrically operated fully automatic elevating roof called the “Autoroof”. Some special addition models for the dealer Davis & Stone had a manual roof. Danbury fibreglass elevating roof runs full length of the vehicle. Fully upholstered bed in roof (1829 mm x ?? mm).
